This steam-powered vehicle was designed by Willem Jacob ‘s Gravesande. In 1717, he became professor of natural sciences and astronomy at Leiden University. His achievements include improving education and publicising Isaac Newton's natural sciences. He was the first person to give lectures which were explained with a series of physical tests. He developed and built contraptions for this, such as this steam-powered vehicle.
